I’ve spent the last few days messing around with textpattern. While it’s true that I can get it to do things that I don’t know how to do in WP (like getting comments to show in the index page), WP still feels more complete and polished. To be specific, there are a few WP features I use a lot, which seem to be unavailable in textpattern (without a hack, that is):
- Approving a comment from a email notification. In textpattern, you can get an email, but then you have to click two or three more times after clicking the link in the email to approve a comment. It’s just one click with WP.
- The ‘edit’ link. There didn’t seem to be an easy way of showing the ‘edit’ link for posts if you were logged in as an author.
- Categories: textpattern has a hard limit of two categories per article. It just has to do with their database schema. They have ‘keywords’ which don’t seem quite the same. I’m not sure. But you couldn’t really do anything interesting with keywords without using plugins
I with the API documentation were better, but I’m now experimenting with K2, which seems to be a good base for customizing.
And now after all those wasted cycles, time to work on my review for the MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.
