For whatever reason, using my new motherboard’s sata ports in AHCI mode with the standard Win7 driver causes my internal drives to show up as potentially removable devices. On top of that, on a resume from suspend, my larger 2TB drive sometimes takes a while to wake up, and this appears to the OS as a hotplug event.

What happens when a removable device with 30k photos on it suddenly shows up? Well, of course Lightroom starts up to offer you to import those photos.. which is fine except that in this case, those photos are the ones that LR has in it’s database already. Nice.

The solution seems to be to install Intel’s rapid storage tech driver. Which I guess understands the quirks of their chipset as not to confuse windows. AHCI standard fail?
