We’re about half way through our move. Things are going pretty good so far, with most everything but the big furniture pieces and eletctronic equipment having been moved already. All that’s really left is to have the movers help us move the big stuff, and then clean the old apartment and set up the new one.
The new apartment has much more of a ‘house’ feel to it. The kitchen is very new, and there are lots of storage spaces, cupboards, cabinets, pantries, closets, so much so that a lot of ‘storage furniture’ that we had in the old aparment are now unneeded. It’s a nice feeling. Plus we have a really modern and nice kitchen, and lots more space, a deck, and apple and cherry trees.
There are a few interesting problems we ran into, however. First of all, because the building was built so long ago, it seems that there is no room that has been optimized for watching TV. This means that there is no space with a comfortable 12 to 15 feet wall to wall space where a couch and a TV could be placed. Instead we have a few spaces that are somewhat elongated by modern standards, maybe 8 to 10 feet by 15 to 20 feet. This makes trying to arrange the furniture rather interesting.
There’s still a good amount of work to do, but I can already tell that I’ll be really happy about it when the move is finally over.
