Ah ha

It seems that the slowness on my server was due to the fact that I only gave my vm 128mb of memory. Up to 192mb and all seems snappy now. Maybe I don’t need dreamhost after all….

Time to move hosts

Seems like all I use my desktop these days is to run this webserver VM, run an itunes share, and a simple fileserver. All this stuff can be accomplished by a much smaller, quieter machine, or even better, a paid webhost and an external hard drive enclosure. It’s probably about time for me to get […]

Reduced means Reduced

Decided to test all types of RAW converters today, including Bibble Pro, Capture One LE, and Nikon Capture Editor. They all have roughly the same features, so it seems more about speed and usability rather than a pure feature comparison. Anyhow, all of these programs were acting super slow duing testing. Some were better than […]

wow

Apparently ntfs support in linux has come a long way. I just used ntfsresize (driven by qtparted from knoppix 3.9) to downsize my Windows Server 2003 boot partition, and it totally worked with no problems. That’s pretty fricking amazing.

You can never win

Recently, it’s started to act up.. the powerbook loses association with the router and I have to toggle the wireless settings on the router to get it […]

Painful upgrade

Even with the help of multiple snapshots, I still haven’t figured out the exact order or things I need to do to upgrade my woody VM to sarge. I tried first upgrading the kernel, which made the vmware tools stuff break. You have to install kernel-image, grub, as well as kernel-headers and gcc3.3. Perhaps my […]

More apple koolaid

On an impulse, bought the airport express. It took a while to get set up right, but it seems to work fine. It’s slightly annoying how its rather sensitive to wireless network interference. I wish the audio buffer was a bit larger, enough to handle 1-second dips in signal strenght or something. Also, it doesn’t […]
